What a hydronic system is
The boiler heats water (or makes steam in older systems). A circulator pump moves hot water through a loop to radiators or baseboard fin-tubes, which release heat into each room; cooled water returns to the boiler to be reheated. Expansion tanks, zone valves, and an aquastat keep pressure and temperature in range.
Because it heats with water instead of blown air, hydronic heat avoids the dust, noise, and dry-air feel of forced-air systems.
When hydronic expertise matters
